Lost Horizons and Googly Books
The Lost Horizons album I slept on last year hit the sweet spot in a major way today.
On Monday, April 25, I heard the track “In Quiet Moments (feat. Ural Thomas)” by Lost Horizons. It was my first day back in Portland, Oregon, after spending the previous 10 days in Costa Rica. I was driving to the grocery store to pick up lunch and was listening to the noon hour radio show on KMHD. Lost horizons, indeed.
“In Quiet Moments” is an absolutely bonkers beautiful track. The album is pretty spectacular overall. Simon Raymonde resurrects the classic Cocteau Twins sound — all shimmering guitar and eachoey piano. PLUS >> Skittering drumming by Dif Juz’s Richie Thomas. DOUBLE-PLUS >> A wide-ranging cast of singer characters including none other than his Majesty John Grant and the very, very Fraser-y Kavi Kwai. I’d swear those were Liz’s pipes in the background.
An absolute pleasure to listen to in the afterglow of a rejuvenating, game- and Googly Book-filled vacation with friends.
